Richard "Rick" S. Floyd, Jr

Richard “Rick” S. Floyd, Jr., of Cheraw, SC, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018.  He was born in Florence, SC, a son of the late Dorothy Price Floyd and Richard S. Floyd, Sr. 

Rick graduated with a BS in Ceramic Engineering from Clemson University in 1983.  While at Clemson, Rick was involved with multiple professional, academic and athletic societies, including the student branch of American Ceramic Society as well as intramural basketball and softball.  After graduation, he supported the operations at Ecolab, Palmetto Brick Company, Marion Ceramic and the Schaeffler Group.  Many of the residences and buildings in Cheraw and the surrounding areas are constructed by bricks that he helped design. 

Rick was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.  His most cherished memories of hunting and fishing were when he was with his three children.  He was the biggest source of inspiration for his son, Holden Floyd, during every fishing and baseball tournament.  He supported the entire team in addition to his children.  Rick was a constant rock of reassurance and strength for his daughter, Bailey Floyd, throughout her life, especially during her first semester at Clemson University.  Rick was especially proud of his first-born son, Rick III or “Ricky”, for his graduation from The University of South Carolina and for his current pursuit of his Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering.  Rick made friends everywhere he went and never judged others.  He was kind, sincere and thankful, and he will be forever missed.  

Surviving are two sons, Richard “Ricky” S. Floyd III (fiancé Carmen Gates) and Holden Floyd; daughter, Bailey Floyd; two sisters, Kandis F. Lindsay (Alex) and Sandra “Sandy” F. Ard (Clark); an aunt, Brenda G. Price Bunn (Richard); and a number of nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 PM on Wednesday just prior to the service at the church.  Entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
