Mary Theresa Toth, 81, of Florence, passed away on Good Friday, April 2, 2021 in the MUSC Health Florence Medical Center. Theresa was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, youngest daughter of the late Patrick and Fanny Forker. At the age of 18, she joined the convent, Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut hill, with the aspirations to become a nun until she was forced to leave less than a year later due to chronic asthma. She was incredibly proud of earning her bachelor’s degree much later in life from Francis Marion University, the first in her immediate family to earn a college degree. Because of this, she was an inspiration to her children, letting them know that a dream was worth pursuing at any age. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, loved being with family and friends, attending family reunions, and being with her grandchildren. Theresa loved people and was loved in return by all she met.
She is preceded in death, in addition to her parents, by her eldest daughter: Susan Theresa Toth, and her siblings: Mary Sherwood, Frances Donovan, James Forker, and Daniel Forker.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years: Tibor Endre Toth, four children: Theresa Toth (Edward) Whitty, Tibor Patrick (Lisa) Toth, Elizabeth Frances Toth and Frances Marie Toth, seven grandchildren: Sean, Grace, Anna and Colin Whitty and Tibor G., Hollis and Hayes Toth, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass will be said at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the funeral home. Covid 19 protocols will be observed and it is asked that you wear face coverings and observe social distancing.
