Mary Ellen (Young) Stroud

Mary Ellen Young Stroud, 86, of Florence, SC, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Heritage Home of Florence.  She was born in Hickory, NC, a daughter of the late Samuel Lloyd Young and Blanche Wall Young.  In addition to her parents, she is also predeceased by her husband, Kelly Ray Stroud, Sr.; a sister, Virginia Young Greene; three brothers, Harold Young, Douglas Young and Cecil Young; a grandson, David Carter and a step great grandson, Casey Blackwelder.

Mrs. Stroud was a member of Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir, taught the children’s choir and also taught the WMU.  She was an avid reader and gardener and was a very meticulous housekeeper.

She is survived by three sons, Kelly Ray (Sherree) Stroud, Jr. of Lincolnton, NC, Ronald Stephen Stroud of Florence and Douglas Wayne (Susan) Stroud of Carlstadt, NJ; a daughter, Libby Stroud (Tim) Carter of Effingham; seven granddaughters; two step grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 20, 2019 in the chapel of Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, just prior to the service.  A private burial will be at Florence National Cemetery.
