With great sadness, the family of Karen Mims Keels announces that she passed away on January 15, 2021, at the age of 70.
Karen’s life centered on faith and family. Her spirit was boundless, always giving of herself with a shining smile or a helping hand. Her love and compassions extended to her work as a teacher in which she touched so many. With her husband, they established Keels Land and Timber. Her most important role was as a wife, mother and grandmother.
Besides spending time with her family, she loved to listen and dance to good beach music or to relax with a good book or movie. Stray dogs were very fortunate when Karen passed by, she extended her love to many furry friends. She loved deeply, and we have been blessed to have known her light and spirit.
Karen will be remembered always by her devoted husband of 50 years, William “Bill” H. Keels, Jr.; her son, Brad Keels; her grandsons, Langdon, Trenton, Keaton and Campbell; and her sisters, Sondra Spears, Wanda Brown, and Phyllis Pearson. She is remembered also by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Annie Berry and Fred P. Mims; her brother Pete Mims; and her son, Lang Keels.
A closed memorial service was held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Florence Area Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association. Cain Calcutt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Keels family.
