Joan Keelan Connolly

Joan Keelan Connolly, 82, of Darlington, SC, formerly of Waltham, MA, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022.  She was born in Boston, MA, a daughter of the late John and Helen Beath Keelan.  She is also predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Paul Connolly and a brother, John Keelan. 

Mrs. Connolly was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Waltham, MA.  She earned a BA degree, English Major, Secondary Schools, from Boston State Teachers College.  She worked as a teacher at Belmont Jr. High School, Central Middle School, South Middle School and McDevitt Middle School in Waltham MA.  She was also a partner in J&J Realty Trust in Belmont, MA. 

Mrs. Connolly volunteered in many organizations, including as Librarian, Plympton Elementary School, Girl Scout Leader, P.T.A. Recording and Corresponding Secretary at Plympton Elementary School and Advisory Council at St. Mary’s Church, all in Waltham, MA.  She won many educational awards, including Teacher of the year (20 years) and was nominated twice for MA Teacher of the Year.  She was a member of the MA Teachers Association.

Surviving are her children, Paul Connolly Jr. and his wife Ellen, of Darlington, SC, Debra Connolly of Dracut, MA, and Clare Welch of Waltham, MA; and four grandchildren, Jacqueline Raponi, Ryan Welch, Stephanie Welch and Samantha Brady.

Love and gratitude to my daughter in law, Ellen, and my son, Paul, for their tenderness and unwavering care throughout my long journey.

A memorial mass service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at St. Anthony Catholic Church.  Inurnment will follow at Florence National Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made in honor of Mrs. Connolly to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
