James Harrell “Boo” Keels, 67, of Timmonsville, SC, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House. He was born in Florence, a son of the late Erin Gussie Harrell Keels and William Hill Keels, Sr. In addition to his parents, he is also predeceased by a brother, George Harrell Keels.
Boo graduated from Hudgens Academy where he was a standout middle linebacker. He was the owner/operator of Lynches River Land and Timber Company. He was an avid and lifelong outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and cooking, especially whole hogs, shrimp and frying fish. He was a big fan of beach music and Motown and he loved to shag. He was a loving father and grandfather.
He is survived by his son Clinton Matherson Keels (Koula); granddaughter, Nola Ray Keels; two brothers, William Hill Keels, Jr. and Michael Harrell Keels; one sister, Garris Conner Keels; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 11, 2021 in the chapel of Cain Calcutt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the SC Wildlife Federation or to McLeod Hospice House.
