Obituary

James Ashley “Jay” McKissick, 49, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Jay was born in Florence, SC, a son of Larry Paul and Sara Jane Dickens McKissick.  He graduated from West Florence High School and attended Francis Marion University.  He attended Tabernacle UMC in his youth and more recently New Hope Family Worship.  Jay enjoyed fishing, singing, dancing and was great landscaper, having owned his own company.  He had a big heart and loved his family.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Barney “BJ” McKissick and Peggy McKissick, maternal grandparents, Rev. Joseph Ashley Dickens Jr. and Elizabeth Hux Dickens and his aunt Rhonda McKissick Poston.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his daughter, Megan Elizabeth McKissick; a son, Jackson Paul McKissick; a sister, Angela (RP) Gensel; an aunt, Rebecca Dickens Cox; two uncles, Jimmy (Emogene) McKissick and Joey Dickens; niece and nephews, Emma, Trey and Ben Gensel and several other cousins, aunts and uncles.

A private service will be held at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to New Hope Family Worship, 1600 Mars Hill Circle, Florence, SC 29501.
