James Carter Obituary

James Lonnie Carter, 73, of Effingham, SC, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. He was born in Dillon, SC, a son of the late Lonnie and Beulah Daniels Carter. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother-in-law, Perry Herring.

James loved sports, especially the Dillon Wildcats and the SC Gamecocks. He enjoyed fishing, the sun and being outdoors, beach music and shagging.

James is survived by his wife, Cherry Leach Carter; two sons, Brooks Carter (Heather) and Jason Carter; three step-sons, Chad Kale (Janet), Jason Kale (Jennifer Davis) and John Kale (Melissa); six grandchildren, Brenner Kale, Patrick Kale, Jared Kale, Morgan Carter, Ashlyn Carter and Lindsey Kale; two sisters, Jean Herring and Lib Rowell (John); and one brother, Earl Carter (Anita).

The family will hold a memorial service on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at 2nd Baptist Church in Dillon, SC. They will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Cain Calcutt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Carter Family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
