Hoyt Turbeville Obituary

Obituary:

H. DuPree Turbeville, 88, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022.  He was born in Marion County, son of the late Hoyt D. Turbeville and Nadine T. Burch.  He is predeceased by, the love of his life, and wife of 68 years, Betty C. Turbeville and their daughter Betty Lynn Turbeville.  He is also predeceased by a brother James Eddie Burch. 

Mr. Turbeville graduated from Brittons Neck High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball for 4 years. He served as president of his senior class. He attended Wofford College and North Greenville college.  DuPree served in the SC National Guard for 10 years and attended OCS.  He worked for Carolina Power and Light Co. for 35 years in Marion, Cheraw and Florence, SC.  He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was very involved in his church and community, serving as senior warden of St. David’s Episcopal Church, president of the Cheraw Civitan Club, Cheraw Academy School Board, Scoutmaster, and District Commissioner of the Pee Dee Area Council of the Boy Scouts.   DuPree enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, and camping with the Boy Scouts.  He retired in Florence, SC after 35 years with CP&L.  He was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, where he was active on the vestry and men’s club.   He was also a member of the Amity Masonic Lodge #340. 

Surviving is his brother Wayne Turbeville (Ellen); son, Russell Turbeville (Melonie); grandchildren Carolyn Miller (John Mark), Rebekah Turbeville and great-grandchild, John Mark Miller III.

A funeral service will be held 2pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at All Saints Anglican Church, with burial to follow at Reedy Creek Church Cemetery in Rains, SC. A visitation will be held from 1-2 pm just prior to the service in the Parish Hall at All Saints Anglican Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church.
