Gwendolyn Blondell "Gwen" Whalen

Gwendolyn Blondell “Gwen” Whalen, 84, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at MUSC Florence Health Center.  Gwen was born in Ft. Mill, SC a daughter of the late Frederick and Edith Barfield.  She was a loving and dedicated wife of a career veteran from whom she followed around the world.  She retired from the NUCOR Credit Union after over 26 years of dedicated service.  She was a member of Palmetto Street Church of God.

Gwen is preceded in death in addition to her parents by five brothers, Larson, Billy, Legrand, Gerald and Sherod Barfield.

Surviving are her loving husband of 62 years, Peter Richard “Pete” Whalen; a son Kenneth Earl (Tina) Whalen; a daughter, Patricia Renee “Patty” Whalen; Six grandchildren, Patrick Ryan Whalen, Brandy Franco, Kenny Whalen, Dustin Whalen, Andy Rodriquez and Emmanuel Rodriquez; eight great-grandchildren, Zoey, Kiley and Kendell Franco, Addison, Corbett, Cody, Dallas and Easton Rodriquez; two sisters, Caroll (Frederick) Skipper and Darlyne Adams; two brothers, James (Joanne) Barfield and Laverne (Charlene) Barfield and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 28, 2020 in the Darlington Memory Gardens, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.  COVID-19 Protocols will be observed.  Cain Calcutt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Whalen Family.
