George Franklin Best, Sr. died on Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was the son of the late George Madison Best and the late Pearl Grainger Best. He is survived by his beloved wife, Allison Floyd Best of their home.
He is survived by three sons, George Franklin “Frankie” Best, Jr. (Crissie) of Darlington; Robert “Robbie” Lawrence Truluck (Melissa) of Florence; and George Bryan Truluck Best (Eileen) of Kodiak, Alaska and Houma, LA. He is survived by one brother, Danny Wayne Best (Janie) from Chesterfield, VA; and one sister, Marilyn Best Hayes of Marion SC. Mr. Best and his wife have five grand-daughters, Bridget Michelle Best Fowler (Hunter), of Loris, SC; Kelsey Maureen Truluck, of Florence; Hunter Logan Truluck, age 19, of Florence; Kirsten Ainsley Truluck, of Florence; and Lydia Mae Steptoe, of Charleston, SC. Mr. Best and his wife have two grandsons, George Samuel Best, age 6, and John Lawrence Best, age 3 of Kodiak, Alaska and Houma, LA; and one great-grandson, Easton Nicholas Fowler, age 9 months.
Mr. Best was a retired railroad conductor with CSX/Railroad. He had a loving relationship with their church family of Quinby United Methodist in Quinby, SC. Carl Claude Henning of Sitka, Alaska was like a brother and he and his wife, Betty, were loved very much by Mr. Best and his wife Allison.
The family requests no flowers and any and all memorials be made to Quinby United Methodist Church and/or to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Best requests that you come and visit at Quinby United Methodist Church where all are welcome and the word of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is preached. A funeral service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2022. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 PM at the church prior to the service. A private burial will be held at Cedar Dale Cemetery in Mullins.
