Obituary

Frederick James Swearingen, 72, of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.  He was born in Sonoma, CA, a son of the late Fred and Nellie Elston Swearingen.  In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a sister, Janice Marie Swearingen Menezes and his step-mother, Frances Swearingen.

Fred attended high school in Hawaii and then served his country in the US Air Force.  After his military service, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mississippi.  He worked 15 years with Norfolk Southern Railroad, 10 years at ACF Industries in Huntington, WV and then retired after 10 years of working with Crenlo Industries.  He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and he loved working on cars, listening to rock and roll music and watching Ole Miss football.

Fred is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret “Peggy” Allen Swearingen; two sons, Kyle Allen Swearingen and Cory James Swearingen (Rebecca); and a granddaughter, Scarlett Nellie Swearingen.

A private family service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Columbarium.  Cain Calcutt Funeral Home is honored to serve the Swearingen family.
