Edith McEachern Hicks, lifelong resident of Florence, SC, went to be with her Lord on October 23, 2023, after a brief illness. Known by family as Edy, she had celebrated her 100th birthday shortly before. Edy was eagerly anticipating her reunion with her husband (Dr. Myers Hicks), parents, and loved ones who had already gone to heaven. She loved talking about Jesus and shared her faith in many ways, including participating in lay renewals in churches from New England to Florida to Hawaii. Edy taught the catechism to young people, was an on-line missionary for ten years, and sang in the church choir. Most of her family & friends treasure the window sill angel she made reminding them to pray every day.
Edith had a number of hobbies which gave her great joy. She became a Master Life Judge for flower shows as a result of her expert floral arrangements. Working in her flower beds was her delight. She made baskets of every size & shape, and knitted booties, sweaters & afghans for family and friends.
Edy loved to have fun. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis. She learned to tap dance in her senior years, and played Taps on her trumpet. Her smile was genuine, her laugh contagious, and her love was unconditional. She was enthusiastic, caring, always hospitable, and loved by those who knew her.
Edith was predeceased by her husband, Myers, and her parents Daniel and Edith McEachern. She is survived by her six children, Rachel (Jim) Crosby, Daniel (Cissy) Hicks, David (Elizabeth) Hicks, Ken (Tina) Hicks, Martha Chastain, and Glenn (Diane) Hicks, 14 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 7 great great grandchildren.
