Dawn LeMay Bowens, daughter of Florine Richardson Smith and the late Horace Washington Smith III was born on September 2, 1965, in Chester, PA. She attended Mullins Elementary School, Mullins Junior High and Mullins High School of Marion County. Early on in life she publicly professed her faith and was baptized September 10, 1975 in Columbia, SC. She was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall, and being one of Jehovah’s Witnesses always has been her greatest joy.
She was married a short while to Gregory Bowens of Mullins, SC. The union was blessed with two daughters.
Dawn LeMay Bowens did hard work and enjoyed staying busy. Between her work families from Fleet Mortgage to McLeod Procurement, she was loved and adored by many. She was known for her beautiful smile, warm hugs, and infectious laughter. Also, she was known to be the first on the dancefloor at any occasion. Her spiritual life was full and abundant and she was truly a faithful servant of Jehovah. Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.
She quietly departed from her earthly home October 21, 2020, at 11:53am at the McLeod Hospice House surrounded by family.
Her beautiful life and legacy will live on through her mother, brother and children. Her daughters Dawnna Scipio (George Scipio) and Brianna Bowens, brother David C. Smith (Shelley Smith) and mother Florine Smith. She also leaves behind 3 nieces Gabriella Yeinger (24) of Colorado Spings, CO, Chanel Smith (22) and Denver, CO, and Cherise Smith (17) of Magnolia, DE. Dawn also leaves behind a great niece Lena Strayer (4) and a great nephew Lucas Yeinger (18 months). Many cousins and a host of friends will truly miss “Sweet D.”
