Charles "Jim" Fleck Obituary

Charles James “Jim” Fleck passed away on 25 October 2020, at 79 years old, in McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born on 24 October 1941 in Fort Eustis,
Newport News, Virginia.

An army brat, Jim lived in several countries, including Germany and Panama, before his family returned to his native Virginia in 1955, moving to Harrisonburg. He graduated from
Harrisonburg High School in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1960; having played a variety of sports in the area. He went on to graduate from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia in 1964
with a B.A. in Sociology. For nine years, Jim was an educator and coach in Virginia before he and his wife moved to the Florence area in 1973. In 1977, he graduated with his Masters in
Education Administration plus 30 from the University of South Carolina and served as an educator and administrator in the Florence area for over 20 years. He was affectionately known
for always having candy in his pockets for his students and always encouraging them to be the best that they could be. Jim was also an active member of the Florence Senior Civitains for
twenty-six years and he was active in Jr. Civitans in South Carolina for twenty-four years; serving as faculty advisor, assistant state director, and state director.

An avid sports fan, Jim loved all sports. He regularly cheered for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the James Madison Dukes, and the Duke Blue Devils. However, he loved nothing more than
supporting the Alabama Crimson Tide and the South Carolina Gamecocks with his granddaughters. When he was younger, Jim loved working in his yard and playing golf. Overall,
his favorite thing was being with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim never met a stranger and never forgot a person; actively staying in touch with his high school classmates and
his numerous students and colleagues.

He is preceded in death by his parents Mary Schaffer Witsil, Charles James Fleck, and Frances and Claude Warren and his younger brother Thomas Fleck and older brother Charles William
Warren. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Dorothy Davis Fleck, daughters Allicyn (Terry) Steverson of Timmonsville, South Carolina, Marisa Jovita Guila Garcia (Rodrigo
Pichardo Ramirez) of Tampico City, Mexico, Katalin (Kristof Roemer) of Utting am Ammersee, Germany, and Mari (Rodney) Bender of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, grandchildren Alexis Poston,
Dempsey Poston, and CharLeigh Steverson of Florence, South Carolina, Marcos Rodrigo Pichardo Aguila (Alejandra Salazar Garcia) of Tampico City, Mexico, AmeĢlie Roemer and

Sandra Fleck, Kathryn Keyvani, both of Alexandria, Virginia and Jane Van Pelt and Judy Warren, both of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and nieces Micheale Daniel of Terra Alta, West Virginia
