Betty Seymour Johnson, 72, of Converse Drive in Florence, peacefully passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the Hospice House at McLeod Regional Medical Center after a long illness. She was born in Conway, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Billy Jack Seymour and Ora P. Mixon. She was a graduate of Conway High School and the Florence Cosmetology School.
Betty began her working life as a licensed Cosmetologist and she was the long-time owner and operator of Happy Land Daycare on Second Loop Road where she quickly gained the nickname “Betty B.” She later operated a daycare at her home on Converse Drive. “Betty B.” touched the lives of hundreds of children and their families in the more than three decades of business.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John H. Johnson of Florence; two daughters, Cherrie J. Dean (John M. Dean) of Florence and Debbie J. Baker of Greenville, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Rhys A. Miles (Hannah) of St. Simon’s Island, Georgia, Ravyn Miles-Dean of Florence, and Falcon T. Baker, Zoe A. Baker, and Kindred Skye Baker all of Greenville.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, there will not be an indoor funeral service. There will be instead a graveside service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, at the Florence National Cemetery on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that individuals donate to the HOPE Fund Endowment at the McLeod Foundation, 800 E. Cheves Street Suite 150, Florence, South Carolina 29506.
