Annie Roney Vaughan Obituary

Annie Roney Edgerton Vaughan, age 104, of Florence, passed away on Sunday, February 10th, 2019, at McLeod Hospice House.   She was born on March 2, 1914 in Rowland, North Carolina but lived most of her life in Florence, South Carolina where she married the love of her life, Herbert Darwin Vaughan in 1934.

Annie Roney lived an extraordinary and grace filled life spanning several generations. She loved serving people and did so in the Florence community for many years in places such as S. H. Kress department store downtown; the family business, Vaughan’s Grocery, on East Palmetto Street; and the Cake Box Bakery in the Florence Mall. She also served people by sharing her love for Jesus Christ as an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church and, in her later years, Grace Baptist Church.

Annie Roney was deeply and sacrificially committed to loving her family.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James Warren Edgerton, Sr. and Avie Oliver Edgerton; her husband, Herbert Darwin Vaughan; and her brothers James Warren Edgerton, Jr., and Willie Hugh Edgerton.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Darwin Vaughan Haynes of Florence; her grandson Harold Bruce Haynes, Jr. of McLean, Virginia; and her sister Lucille Brown of Florence. She has three beloved great-grandchildren, Walker Thomason Haynes, Lawson Edgerton Haynes and Caroline Woodfin Haynes also of McLean, Virginia.
