Vivian Elaine Nixon, 86, of Florence, SC, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Mrs. Nixon was born in Visalia, CA, the daughter of the late Eddie S and Mamie C Futrell and married to the late Lt. Col. George Allen Nixon (USA Ret.) who passed away June 18, 2007. She graduated from nursing school in San Francisco and worked at various hospitals across the United States. She retired from McLeod as a registered nurse. After her retirement, she continued helping others in the Florence community through volunteer work with various organizations. Mrs. Nixon attended Central United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the John Wesleyan Sunday School Class. With her friends and family, she shared her love of travel from China to Israel to Europe to Canada and across the United States. Wherever in the world, she was, she had a fondness for a good tea, a good book, and music.
Survived by her two sons, Steven Allen Nixon (Karen) of Columbia and Kirk Edward Nixon (Terri) of Florence and her four beloved grandchildren, Lauren Ashley Nixon of Columbia, Kirk Alec Nixon of New York City, Christine Nixon Bryant (Carsten) of Durham, and Vivian Lyne Nixon of Florence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2019, in the Chapel of Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, with a private interment at a later date in the Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm just prior to the services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the McLeod Hospice House or to Central United Methodist Church.
