ROY “CHARLES” ROGERS, age 79, entered his eternal home in Heaven on May 22, 2018 after a brief stay at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC surrounded by his three daughters. He was born on August 24, 1938 in Aynor, SC to the late Fulton and Mary Rogers. He joined the US Marine Corps at age 17. He was a member of Christian Assembly Church where he served as Choir Director, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Youth Leader under the ministry of the late Rev. Wesley Potter. The youth knew him as "Uncle Charles". He shared the plan of salvation to many teenagers and led them in the sinner's prayer. He was a Mason (Hampton Lodge 204), a mechanic, and a retired machinist from Fiber Industries. He loved singing, traveling, raised German Shepard puppies, was a gardener, and was known for his Thanksgiving Pig Pickins and his firm handshakes.
He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife and mother of his children, Kerlee Jackson Rogers; his brother, Ralph Rogers, sister Juanita Rogers, son-in-law Lyle Hill, and two childhood lifelong friends, Jimmy Miles and Charles Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Eunice Kennedy Brown Rogers; his daughters, Karen Hill, Marcia (Thomas) Hoffmeyer, and Dana (Robbie) Hill; grandchildren Dacia Hill-Oates, Mary Elizabeth Hill, Hunter (Ashley) Hoffmeyer, Genniel (Casey) Varner, and Tara Hoffmeyer; Great-grandchildren, Caroline and Andrew Oates; Huntley, Charlee, and Kingsley Varner; Hunter Grace and Leah Hoffmeyer; sisters Mildred Rheinlander and Joanne (Larry) Brown, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by step-children Bob Brown, Robin Brown, Joy Brown, Pam (David) Murray, and Jean (Gary) Flohr; step-grandchildren Tallon Brown, Chris (Megan) Murray, Ashton and Sarah Gerrald, Gage and Abby Flohr, and step-great- grandson Kaison Murray.
A funeral service directed by Cain-Calcutt Funeral Home will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 25, 2018, at Christian Assembly Church with burial to follow at Florence Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Thomas and Marcia Hoffmeyer.
