Nicholas Thomas Jimes, 95, of Florence, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, in Columbia, SC. He was born in Shreveport, LA, a son of the late Henry and Jeanette Agnes Corolla Jimes. He is also preceded in death by the mother of his children, the late Linda Louise Jacobs.
Nicholas was a member of our nation’s greatest generation, having served during WWII in the US Army Air Corps. He was an Aerospace Engineer and worked with Boeing for many years. He held a BS degree from the University of Houston. Nick was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and volunteered with Lighthouse Ministries. He loved being a pilot, bowling, golfing and rebuilding old cars.
Nicholas is survived by his wife, Elma Benton Jimes; four children, Dianne Rene Whisler (Steve), Teresa Ann Jimes, Donald Patrick Jimes and Cynthia Marie Jimes; seven step-children, Perry Giordano (Patsy), Donnie Giordano (Dianne), Ronnie Giordano (Terri), Ralph Giordano, Cindy Glass, Teresa McCutcheon (Terry) and Melisa Schwab (Bob); sister, Rose Mitchell; twenty-two grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2019, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, at Cain Calcutt Funeral Home.
