Joseph M. Messina, 92, of Florence, SC, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019. He was born in Linden, New Jersey, a son of the late Sebastian and Erminia Cozzoli Messina. He is also predeceased by his wife, Marilyn Haley Messina and a brother, Anthony John Messina.
Mr. Messina was a veteran, having served in the US Army Air Corp. and he was also a member of the VFW Santee-Manning Post in Summerton. He worked as a plant superintendent in a printing company that his uncle started as Professional Printing Co. in 1940, which later became Histacount Corp. Mr. Messina was a devoted husband and family man. He loved their house on the lake and taking the pontoon out for a spin. He loved woodworking and celebrating the holidays with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Daryl Messina (William) Stokey and Barbara Messina (Harry) Sarver; three grandchildren, Matthew Joseph Sarver, Christopher Thomas (Brandi) Sarver, and Dana Messina (David) Smith; and six great grandchildren, Kayln, Kassidy, Kira, Lydia, Dottie, and Brynn.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the chapel of the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with inurnment to follow in the Veterans’ Niche. The family will speak to those in attendance following the services.
