Bruce Miller Buxton, 71, passed away March 15, 2019 at the Florence Presbyterian Community in Florence, SC.
Bruce was born in Buffalo, NY in 1947 and grew up in Saint Albans, WV, graduating from Saint Albans High School in 1965. He received an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Business Administration from Asheville-Buncombe Tech in 1970. In 1973 he graduated from West Virginia State College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
He worked in the retail trade for his entire career in GA, MS, and SC for companies including K-Mart, Sam’s Wholesale Club, and Big Lots. He retired as assistant manager in 2014 after 21 years with Family Dollar.
He was a handyman and loved to fix things. He started young by building racers and competing in the Soap Box Derby races held in Charleston, WV. In 1958 he won second place and in 1961 won second place again.
As he requested, his ashes were scattered in the mountains of NC in a private ceremony.
He is survived by his sister, Jerilee Gleiter, of Grants Pass, OR.
