Betty Mayes Schwark

A memorial service for Betty Mayes Schwark, widow of Henry A. Schwark, will be 1:00PM Friday, May 2, 2008 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Bereavement Fund, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407. Cain Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mrs. Schwark, 89, of Florence, entered into eternal rest on the morning of April 29, 2008 in Presbyterian Communities of SC.

She was born June 1, 1918, in Kansas City, MO. She attended Kansas City Art Institute and later became a commercial fashion illustrator. Upon retiring, she moved to Charleston, S.C. in 1980 where she began portrait painting and watercolors. She was featured in many art galleries throughout Charleston. In 1990, she and her daughter opened Cobblestone Studios on Market Street, where her artwork is still on display.

Surviving are: son, John Schwark of Shawnee Mission, KS; sister, JoAnn Kistler of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Billy, John, Christine, Jon Scott, Brian, Kelly, and Holly and six great-grandchildren. .
